Cheers Tantek, I'll try and dig out some real world examples and add them to the wiki. Will also encourage others to do so.

Regarding using the time element for dates without years like: 13 Apr – 14 May, there is an effort to gather use cases and opinions to advocate expanding the capabilities of the time element to cover expressions of month+day and other datetimes:

http://wiki.whatwg.org/wiki/Time_element

Please add your name and opinion to the wiki for the various proposals, with citation of real world examples where possible (actual pages on today's web where you could make use of an expanded time element).

HTML5 is not finished yet, we can make it better.

Thanks,

Tantek

The bit about the bylines is interesting. I agree with putting it in the header, since it's rather valuable information that can be decisive when choosing to read the actual article.

I usually use a class name like "meta" to group information like this, which can appear in both header and footer (depending on the value of the information).
