HTML5 Doctor includes advertising, sponsor and book-promotion areas. The presence of a promotion does not imply endorsement by an author unless that endorsement is expressly stated.
Effective 23 October 2026. This policy applies to new work and subsequent revisions; it does not certify a fresh review of every archived article.
Disclosure standard
For new content, a material commercial relationship must be disclosed clearly near the relevant recommendation or at the start of a sponsored article. Paid articles should be labelled “Sponsored” or “Advertisement”. If a purchase link can earn a commission, the article should state that before the link. A disclosure must describe the actual relationship rather than use a vague label.
Editorial responsibility
Advertising and contributed articles must be relevant and useful to people learning or working with web technologies. Payment does not establish technical accuracy, buy a favourable conclusion or permit invented testing. A sponsor, agency or contributor must not be passed off as another author.
Links and historical promotions
Paid placement and affiliate links in new commercial content should use rel="sponsored"; nofollow is also an acceptable qualification under Google’s link guidance. Reader-submitted links should be treated as user-generated content where appropriate. These rules do not certify that every link in the historical archive has already been audited.
Book recommendations and sponsor references in older pages may reflect their original publication period. Check current availability and product details with the provider. Report an unclear disclosure, misleading promotion or broken destination through the corrections process.
